Rifat Atun, Vice Dean for Non-Degree Education and Innovation

Rifat Atun is the Vice Dean for Non-Degree Education and Innovation at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is also a professor of global health systems and leads the Health System Innovation Lab.
Dr. Atun has designed and led executive education programs for companies including Novartis, Medtronic, GSK, AbbVie, Merck, and Pfizer. An active investor in health technology companies, he advises new ventures and has been a founding director of startups in this space.
His academic research focuses on the performance of health systems and the adoption of innovation in health care. He frequently advises governments and global organizations, including the World Health Organization, World Bank, and G20, on health system reform.
Dr. Atun also served on the executive management team of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, overseeing strategy and evaluation of global health investments, and has helped lead numerous Lancet commissions. He has published more than 500 papers in leading journals and is one of the world’s most highly cited researchers. He has also served as full professor at Imperial College London and a visiting professor at Kyoto University in Japan.
Dr. Atun studied medicine at University of London as a Commonwealth Scholar and completed his postgraduate medical and business studies at University of London and Imperial College London. He is a fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians, and the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians in the U.K.
