Biography
Sotiris Vandoros is Professor of Health Economics at University College London, and Director of the Executive MBA Health programme. He is also Adjunct Professor at Harvard University. At UCL, he leads one of the School's three Research Themes (Health Economics, Financing and Operations).
He was previously Associate Dean for Doctoral Studies and Associate Professor at King's College London, and holds a PhD from the LSE.
His research focuses on the impact of economic conditions, shocks and uncertainty on health and health-related behaviours, on policy evaluation, and on pricing, regulation and competition in pharmaceutical markets, studying topics such as the generics paradox, generic competition, therapeutic substitution. His research has featured in policy documents and reports and his work evaluating lockdown policies contributed to policy change during the Covid-19 pandemic.
His research is interdisciplinary and he has published in leading journals in various fields, such as the Review of Economics & Statistics, Social Science & Medicine, Health Affairs, European Journal of Epidemiology, BMJ, American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Epidemiology, Health Economics, Experimental Economics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series A etc.
His work has featured in global media, such as The Economist, Financial Times, CNN, The Times, The Independent, Forbes, New York Times, Newsweek, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Washington Post, The Australian, Irish Times, France24, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit, Irish Times etc.
He is co-Editor of Globalization & Health and serves on the Editorial Board of Health Policy.
Prof Vandoros has worked on projects for national and international organisations and governments such as the World Health Organization, the NHS, the European Commission and the European Parliament.
He has taught at UCL, Harvard, King’s College London, LSE, Brunel, Sorbonne-Cité and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
