As humanitarian needs continue to grow amid armed conflict, displacement, disease outbreaks, and increasing constraints on humanitarian access, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) is honored to present the 2026 Elisabeth B. Weintz Humanitarian Award to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières/MSF). Following the award ceremony, Dr. Javid Abdelmoneim, International President of MSF, and Dr. Michael VanRooyen, Founding Director of HHI, will discuss the evolving humanitarian landscape, the ethical dilemmas facing medical responders, and the enduring principles of independence, neutrality, and impartiality that continue to guide humanitarian action around the world. During the fireside chat, the speakers will address the future of humanitarian medicine, the principles that guide care in the world’s most challenging environments, and the leadership required to uphold humanity in times of crisis.
