Bree Horrocks, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program
Bree (they/them) is completing their postdoctoral psychology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. Their clinical time is spent conducting neuropsychological assessments with D/deaf and hard of hearing youth, and their research examines the impact of identity development, valence, and stigmatization, psychosocial functioning of youth who access gender-affirming care, psychosocial outcomes related to social stress in D/deaf and hard of hearing youth, and the impact of support over adolescent development into emerging adulthood. Bree completed their doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas under the mentorship of Dr. Laura Kuper. Their dissertation used mixed-methods analyses to examine the role of family support in the psychological well-being of transgender youth who accessed gender affirming care throughout adolescence into emerging adulthood, and the evolution of family support over time. Prior to their doctoral program, Bree was a collegiate basketball player at Purdue and Vanderbilt University where they completed their bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively. As someone new to Massachusetts (and the North), in their free time they are exploring the different neighborhoods around greater Boston, and they recently started baking and cycling.
