Anthony Biello, MA

Anthony Biello, MA (he/him), is a second-year PhD student at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in the Population Health Sciences program concentrating in Social and Behavioral Sciences. He is also a member of the SOGIE Health Equity Research Collaborative, the GenderWise Lab, and the Digital Wellness Lab.

Anthony is broadly interested in how social media affects mental health: how the specific affordances, persuasive design elements, and algorithms embedded within different social media platforms impact and potentially transform the user’s behaviors, thoughts, and mental health, and how the online, digital world translates to the offline, physical world. He is also interested in how these outcomes may vary according to who is using the platform (e.g. sexual and gender minority individuals, folks at different developmental stages), what platform(s) they are using, and why and how they use these platforms. 

Prior to starting his PhD program, Anthony worked at a large urban hospital in New York City researching how digital interventions impact the psychological and physical wellbeing of patients with chronic disease, and did sexual and gender minority health disparities research with various academic institutions.
