Meet the changemakers behind the message
Abby Charles, DrPH candidate
Abby Charles brings lived experience and professional expertise to her work advancing health equity. Raised in Trinidad and Tobago and living with lupus, she understands the importance of including community voices in health policy and program design.
Today, Charles leads community health worker initiatives at the Institute for Public Health Innovation, advancing programs across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. At Harvard Chan School, she is strengthening her leadership skills to drive systems-level change and expand access to care for communities too often left out of decision-making.
Akshay Narayanan, MPH ’26
Akshay Narayanan works to strengthen how health and social systems support children and families. Through his experiences in shelter homes and orphanages in India, Narayanan saw which children thrived and which faced challenges, shaping his commitment to ensuring young people have the stability and support they need as they transition to adulthood.
While at Harvard Chan School, Narayanan developed data-driven, sustainable approaches to expand access to care and improve outcomes for underserved communities. Through this work, he built the foundation to design systems that better serve children and families at scale.
Cora Cunningham, SM ’26
Cora Cunningham advances solutions to global water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges through research, collaboration, and community engagement. When Cunningham noticed a gap in collaboration among students interested in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), she helped create a student WASH Organization. Through this role, she fostered dialogue around global inequities and advancing community-driven approaches to public health challenges.
Through research and hands-on learning—from global convenings in Geneva to work assessing humanitarian interventions in Burkina Faso—Cunningham built the skills to improve infectious disease control and expand access to safe water in emergency settings.
