Biography
Mr. Schwope is a VP, Operations at TIAX LLC, Cambridge, MA. The engineers and scientists of the TIAX plan, design, develop, and evaluate products, processes, and technologies. Areas of focus include electronics, functional clothing, mechanical systems, portable power, alternative fuels and transportation systems, residential appliances, industrial HVAC, and military systems. Our customers include large and small corporations, state and federal government agencies, service firms, and not-for-profit institutes.
Mr. Schwope’s technical focus is the development, evaluation, and application of films, sheets and fabrics in products such as protective clothing, food packaging, and drug delivery systems. He is frequently a project leader on multi-year, multi-million dollar assignments for the U.S. government. At the same time, he applies the knowledge gained from these assignments to guide product development work for commercial clients and to assist in litigation.
Mr. Schwope’s degrees are in chemical engineering: B.S. from Cornell University and M.S. from M.I.T. He is past Chairman of the Board of ASTM International, an ASTM Fellow, and past chairman of ASTM Committee F23 on Protective Clothing, on which he continues to participate. He is also a member of the Product Development and Management Association, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Controlled Release Society, and the National Defense Industrial Association. Mr. Schwope has authored or co-authored more than 75 technical papers and presentations. He has reviewed manuscripts for the American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, ASTM Standard Technical Publications, and other technical journals. For more than a decade, he has lectured at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health on chemical protective clothing.
