On August 8, 2025 Melody Goodman was appointed dean of the NYU School of Global Public Health (GHP). “It is an immense privilege to step into this role at a critical time for global public health,” she said.

Goodman graduated from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2003 with an SM degree in biostatistics and holds a PhD in biostatistics from Harvard University.

After earning her PhD, Goodman held faculty positions at Stony Brook University, where she completed her undergraduate studies, and Washington University School of Medicine. In 2017, she joined GHP’s faculty, and has taken on several leadership roles since, including interim chair of the Department of Biostatistics; senior executive vice dean; and most recently interim dean.

In her new role as dean, Goodman looks forward to “[cultivating] the next generation of public health leaders by equipping them with the tools to tackle complex health challenges and drive impactful change.”

In a message shared by NYU President Linda G. Mills and Provost Georgina Dopico, Goodman was described as “a steadfast leader in the field of public health.” GHP will be in “excellent hands with her at the helm as dean,” they said.
