DESCRIPTION:Home / Harvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHarvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRed Cross blood drive hosted by the HMS Departments of Genetics\, Immunology\, and Microbiology. \n\n\nWhy we donate: The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide\, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime. \n\n\nGood to know: On August 7th\, the American Red Cross implemented the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s new blood donation eligibility guidance regarding an individual donor assessment for all donors regardless of gender or sexual orientation. More information is available at the Red Cross’s Eligibility FAQs page and LGBTQ+ Donors page. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

SUMMARY:HCMPH Center Symposium: The Microbiome & Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Home / Harvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHarvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to welcome everyone for the sixth annual Harvard Chan Microbiome in Public Health center symposium\, which this year will be run in tandem with a partner Dana-Farber / Harvard Cancer Center workshop. Of the many health-relevant aspects of microbiome science\, its role in cancer has become particularly critical. Not only is it one of the main factors in the success of breakthrough treatments such as immunotherapy\, microbial chemistry can influence the effects of traditional chemotherapy; microbial profiles provide new routes for cancer biomarkers and early detection; and the specifics of microbial colonization can trigger\, promote\, or prevent cancer development. Our symposium program will include keynotes\, invited talks\, and selected presentations from poster submissions\, and Harvard affiliates can join for a second day of hands-on details and training in microbiome population research. We collect a very nominal fee for in-person registration\, with virtual attendance available for free. Refreshments and a poster presentation are offered on-site\, and support for social media and interactive participation are provided for online attendees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

SUMMARY:Exec. Ed: Women on Boards: Getting On and Adding Value
DESCRIPTION:Home / Harvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHarvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting Executives with Directions\, Tools\, and Approaches to Increase Representation of Women on Health Care and Related Industry Boards\n\nGender disparity on boards of directors is well recognized and documented\, whether in the for-profit\, non-profit\, or government sectors. In the United States\, fewer than 30% of corporate board directors are women. Nearly 50% of venture capital firms focused on health care have no women on their boards of their portfolio companies. Yet studies show that companies with women on their boards make decisions that better protect company value and performance. \n\n\nAccomplished and qualified women want positions on boards of directors and want to advance to leadership roles on them. Many are unclear how to secure these positions of responsibility. Women on Boards: Getting on and Adding Value works to increase the representation of women in governance positions in health care by teaching strategies and competencies to help women to become a first-rate board member\, to prepare you for the inevitable challenges\, and to provide direction\, tools\, and approaches to reach your full potential. \n\nThis is a Must-attend Program for Women Seeking Board Positions\n\nThe program faculty features successful women board members and other experts in board governance and practice. You will meet high-performing\, accomplished\, and ambitious women who have achieved much in their careers and who are ready to take their talent\, leadership\, and executive skills to the next level by serving on boards in health care and related industries. As a participant\, you will develop your own personalized action plan to seek and obtain a board directorship\, and to advance from there. \n\n\nThis interactive course uses case studies and experiential sessions to prepare you for directorship and to start you on the path to becoming a sought-after candidate. You will learn \n\n\nto evaluate board opportunities that meet your preferences and fit\, learn to communicate effectively in the language of boards\, and gain knowledge and skills you will need to be effective. \n\nWomen on Boards of Directors\n\nOrganizations with women leaders perform better than those that don’t. They surpass others in social responsibility\, sustainability\, and financial performance. Evidence shows that companies with female board members are more successful than those without\, a key concern for organizational competitiveness.1 As a program participant\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn essential legal\, regulatory\, and operating knowledge to serve on boards of directors\n\n\nDevelop your understanding of roles and responsibilities to be effective\n\n\nMeet and learn from women who have achieved success as board members\n\n\nDevelop your own action plan to seek\, secure\, and advance in a board position\n\n\n\n\nLearn From Harvard Faculty\n\nWomen on Boards: Getting On and Adding Value is designed and directed by Ellen M. Zane\, MA\, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management at Harvard Chan and CEO Emeritus at Tufts Medical Center\, and Laurie Samuels Pascal\, MBA\, MPH\, Senior Lecturer on Health Management at Harvard Chan. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

SUMMARY:Exec. Ed.: Management and Leadership Skills for EHS Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Home / Harvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHarvard Longwood Campus\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImproving environmental health and safety performance within your organization requires an in-depth understanding of management principles and the leadership skills to drive change. You need to be able to build leadership buy-in for health\, safety\, and environmental initiatives\, lead teams effectively\, and create strategies for integrating EHS principles into the culture of your organization\, including in a crisis. \n\n\nIn particular\, the pandemic has called for EHS leaders to take on and delegate many new and non-traditional environmental health and safety duties. From testing how to best disinfect disposable masks using radiation to organizing the collection of PPE from labs for distribution at hospitals\, EHS professionals are playing a wide range of roles in responding to the pandemic that call for adept leadership skills. \n\n\nIn this program\, you will develop the management skills needed to improve the EHS function in your organization\, while gaining the leadership skills needed to lead teams\, make decisions\, build stakeholder buy-in\, and both generate and sustain change. You will develop skills in the critical areas of leadership and management with the objective of bridging the gap between environmental health and safety technical skills and leadership skills essential for achieving functional excellence. \n\nManagement Training for EHS Professionals\n\nAs you move higher in your organization\, the requirements for technical environmental health skills give way to requirements for management skills. You will need to develop clear goals and objectives that tie environmental health and safety outcomes to organizational goals\, as well as create strategies to achieve these objectives\, establish expectations\, delegate to team members\, and measure outcomes. \n\n\nIn this course you will learn principles imperative to your success as a manager\, including: \n\n\n\n\nManaging and motivating people\n\n\nNegotiation and conflict resolution\n\n\nEHS leadership during a crisis like the current pandemic\n\n\nEffective business communication\n\n\nRisk communication\n\n\nListening as a communication skill\n\n\nTime management and utilization\n\n\nStrategic and business planning for results\n\n\nRegulatory affairs management\n\n\nProfessional ethics and legal issues of management\n\n\nBuilding EHS management systems\n\n\n\n\n\nThe management skills you learn in this program will make you a more effective environmental health professional\, while also improving your proficiency in influencing the actions of others. This skillset will allow you to lead others\, manage yourself better\, and make better decisions. \n\nLeadership Skills for Environmental Health and Safety Professionals\n\nGenerating and sustaining long-term change in an organization requires moving beyond management to leadership. Unlike managers\, leaders are not limited by the scope of their formal authority. They influence and guide others across traditional organizational boundaries\, build relationships\, and overcome organization-wide challenges to increasing productivity and value. \n\n\nThis program covers both functional leadership\, a form of leadership focused on effectiveness and cohesion\, and transformational leadership which is focused on creating and sustaining change. Both types of leadership are required in today’s complex business environment. \n\n\nYou will leave this program with the skills to work smarter\, make more strategic contributions to your organization\, and gain increased respect\, rewards\, and recognition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy
