SUMMARY:Deadline for Registration – Exec. Ed: Leading in Health Systems: Activating Transformational Change
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe pandemic is the direst public health crisis the global population has faced in recent times. However\, as the world attempts to reset itself\, we must acknowledge irreparable fissures created in the health care workforce that cannot be repaired with time. The trauma experienced by health care workers and a dynamic shift in the balance of power in workers’ favor have left leaders looking for answers to improve their health care organization’s resiliency when things are unsure. Leading in Health Systems Activating Transformational Change looks to unearth those answers. Today\, leaders must think and lead differently. Being an effective health care leader during and after a crisis requires you to engage stakeholders across your system and often influence people over whom you have no formal authority. You need leadership\, conflict resolution\, and negotiation skills to build stakeholder buy-in up\, down\, across\, and even beyond your organization. Unlike managers\, leaders influence and guide others beyond traditional organizational boundaries. They think broadly and drive action. Strong leadership will allow you to help your team reach optimal outcomes and remain agile\, while seizing opportunities and overcoming system-wide challenges to increasing productivity and value. In this dynamic executive education program\, the faculty will draw on decades of experience of engagement with health care professionals and field research on crisis situations\, including the pandemic. Through this frame\, you will learn proven\, pragmatic frameworks\, tools\, and techniques developed by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health faculty for bringing together partners with opposing points-of-view\, uncovering shared interests\, and forging unity of effort. \n\n\nAt this program\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn to lead your team in a way that considers new realities in the current and post-pandemic era health care system \n\n\nDevelop strategies to manage employees that have more power—and who will leave if they are dissatisfied \n\n\nRecalibrate your leadership style where trauma has changed the workplace dynamic between you and your team \n\n\nLearn methods to exercise influence well beyond your authority\, extending your reach and engaging otherwise uninvolved stakeholders \n\n\nThe unknown is one of a leader’s biggest worries—learn how to navigate around potential issues facing today’s health care workplaces \n\n\nGain tools of emotional intelligence to discipline yourself and others to best identify priorities and lead effectively\, no matter what you rank or position within your organization \n\n\nUnderstand you and your team members’ risk profiles to balance and integrate different perspectives \n\n\nSharpen your vision and capacity to link\, leverage\, and forge connectivity of effort\, shaping themes and purposes to improve your organization’s position in the ever-changing health care marketplace \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nDeadline to register: May 13\, 2024 \n\n\nProgram runs on-site: May 15 – 17\, 2024 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

The unifying theme of his work is the concept of information; how communication evolves and how the process of evolution encodes information in genomes; how norms and institutions influence scholars’ research strategies and our scientific understanding of the world; and how citations and other scholarly activity can be used to navigate the overwhelming volume of scholarly literature. He is concerned with the spread of disinformation on social networks\, and interested in what can be done. \n\n\nAbout the series: Each spring\, CCDD hosts an annual seminar series featuring talks from experts on the latest research in infectious disease epidemiology and modeling. The ID Epi Seminar Series aims to bring in speakers from various disciplines within infectious disease epidemiology\, broadly defined to include the population biology of pathogens and other allied topics. Seminars will be held on Thursdays\, unless otherwise noted\, at 1pm ET between February 2nd and May 9th. \n\n\nRegister for the seminar here.\nSpeakers will share their own perspectives; they do not speak for Harvard. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

SUMMARY:The political determinants of health: How policy choices impact our well-being
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nIt’s long been clear that societal forces affect health\, from neighborhood demographics to school quality to the selection of products on sale in our corner stores. But what’s behind those forces? Daniel Dawes\, a renowned scholar and attorney\, will unpack the political determinants of health\, exploring how relationships\, resources\, policies\, and power structures exert enormous influence on our environments — and\, in turn\, on our well-being. In this fireside chat\, he’ll discuss how the political determinants of health have exacerbated inequities in the U.S. and share ideas for more equitable policymaking and a healthier country. Dawes will also discuss his work in launching the nation’s first school of global public health at a historically Black college or university\, which grew out of the Global Health Institute at Meharry Medical College. \n\n\nRegister for free to submit your questions. \n\n\nAn on-demand video will be posted after the event. \n\n\nSPEAKER \n\n\nDaniel Dawes\, Senior Vice President\, Global Health\, and Founding Dean and Professor\, School of Global Health\, Meharry Medical College \n\n\nMODERATOR \n\n\nDavid Williams\, Chair\, Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences\, and Florence Sprague Norman and Laura Smart Norman Professor of Public Health\, Harvard T.H. SUMMARY:Reconsidering Population Health Science in the Post-War Era
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDepartment of Epidemiology Seminar Series \n\n\nSpeaker: \n\n\nSandro Galea\, MD\, MPH\, DrPH\nDean and Robert A. Knox Professor\nBoston University School of Public Health \n\n\nBrief abstract: Emerging from the COVID-pandemic\, the worst global health shock in a century\, it is worth asking: why do we do the work of population health science? How do we conduct population health science that has learned from the past few years? The tragedy of the pandemic calls for a reevaluation of first principles that should shape our research priorities and practices in the years ahead. I focus here on three potential aspects of re-evaluation. First\, we have now been reminded that health is subordinate to our shared humanity. This means that we need to be judicious in what we are willing to do to create health and understand that the determination of health needs to extend to well beyond the absence of disease. Second\, we need to accept that people have the autonomy to live how they wish to live. We are not promoting health so that people can always make healthy choices. We are promoting health so people can live how they want to\, have the opportunities and access to healthy choices. Third\, what we do needs to be centered on the multiplicity of human expressions and prioritize creating opportunities for people living with disease so they can realize their potential. This requires an acknowledgment of our limits in generating health. These points have implications for the population health science we pursue\, the questions we ask\, and the approaches we take. \n\n\nOpen to the public (Visitor’s pass required to enter building if not HUID holder) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

Dr. Willett is a Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health\, a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School\, a world-renowned researcher\, and an author. In the past few years\, he has been the co-chair of the EATLancet Commission\, a collection of 37 world-leading scientists investigating how to feed the future global population of 10 billion people the healthiest diet within planetary boundaries. The resulting EATLancet report and the planetary health diet that it promotes are redefining the scope and perception of what nutrition and sustainable food systems will look like in the coming years. This conversation will touch upon how he has achieved success in past endeavors\, such as leading the ban on the use of trans fats\, and how the next generation can navigate creating change despite the presence of strong contradictory stakeholders. The fireside chat will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. Willett and time to connect with other individuals passionate about food\, sustainability\, and health. \n\n\nPlease RSVP by March 25th for catering purposes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

Meanwhile\, public health leaders are beginning to explore how they can contribute their expertise. This event brings together City Councilor At-Large Julia Mejia\, who pressed for the reparations task force\, and public health scholar Mary Bassett\, who has written extensively about how reparations could help close huge racial disparities in health outcomes. The two will discuss the basis for reparations\, how they could affect health and well-being\, and how public health research could inform program design. They’ll also look at how Boston’s efforts fit into the national discussion. \n\n\nRegister for free to submit your questions. \n\n\nAn on-demand video will be posted after the event. \n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\nMary Bassett\, Director\, François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights\, and FXB Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights\, Harvard T.H. SUMMARY:Inside Costa Rica’s healthcare success story
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nAverage life expectancy in Costa Rica has steadily increased\, from 55 years in 1950 to 81 years today — far outpacing the U.S. Even more notable: the country has achieved this success while spending far less than the U.S. as a share of income. What’s behind Costa Rica’s remarkable success? How has its progress in health care improved its resilience? And what lessons can we learn for other nations? We’ll explore all that and more with our experts. \n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\nRoman Macaya\, Former Executive President and Chairman of the Board\, Costa Rican Social Security; Former Ambassador to the U.S \n\n\nAsaf Bitton\, Executive Director\, Ariadne Labs; Associate Professor\, Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H.
