SUMMARY:Reporting on humanitarian crises: A new approach to global storytelling
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nPresented jointly with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative \n\n\nThe ruthless drivers of climate change\, armed conflict\, and natural disasters have sparked wave after wave of humanitarian crises — and at times\, it’s too easy to dismiss the consequences. Journalist Heba Aly will not allow such complacency. As CEO of The New Humanitarian\, an independent nonprofit\, Aly leads a newsroom that delivers high-impact journalism from the heart of crises\, amplifying voices of those in need and those who seek to help. In this fireside chat\, she will discuss the power of storytelling in impacting change on a global scale. She will share her personal experience reporting from conflict zones as well as her leadership of The New Humanitarian\, which is transforming coverage of global crises. Aly and her newsroom are the recipients of the 2023 Elisabeth B. Weintz Humanitarian Award from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. \n\n\nRegister for free to submit your questions. \n\n\nAn on-demand video will be posted after the event. \n\n\nSPEAKER \n\n\nHeba Aly\, CEO\, The New Humanitarian \n\n\nMODERATOR \n\n\nMichael VanRooyen\, Chair\, Department of Emergency Medicine\, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Director\, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Unleash your potential at Harvard Chan School. \n In addition to our degree programs\, we offer highly targeted programs through our Advanced Learning Academy\, directed and taught by Harvard faculty. \n \n \n \n Degree Programs \n \n \n \n How to Apply \n \n \n \n Advanced Learning Academy

SUMMARY:The Boston Marathon bombings a decade later: An inside look at lessons learned
DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nPresented jointly with the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative at Harvard University \n\n\nOn April 15\, 2013\, two explosions rocked the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Within minutes\, authorities from multiple jurisdictions launched an extraordinary collaborative effort to treat victims\, clear crowds\, track down the bombers\, and calm a rattled city. Researchers would later call that approach “swarm leadership.” A decade later\, we bring together leaders from the front lines and emergency preparedness experts to tell the inside story of the response. Our panelists will share key lessons learned and explore how the principles and practices implemented in Boston can help us prepare for future crises. \n\n\nRegister for free to submit your questions. \n\n\nAn on-demand video will be posted after the event. \n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\nLeonard Marcus\, Founding Co-Director of the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative\, Harvard University\, and Founding Director of the Program for Health Care Negotiation and Conflict Resolution \n\n\nEric McNulty\, Associate Director\, National Preparedness Leadership Initiative\, Harvard University \n\n\nS. DESCRIPTION:Home / Kresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKresge Building\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nOur diets clearly affect our health — and they may also determine the future of our planet. In this panel\, we’ll examine the connections between personal and planetary health\, with a particular emphasis on how our dietary choices can influence climate change\, antibiotic resistance\, and food security. Our expert panelists will explore concepts including mindful eating\, cultivated meat\, and “blue” diets rooted in the ocean. We’ll also talk about sustainable agricultural practices. By looking at where and how our food is sourced\, we’ll be able to evaluate both the health and the environmental impact of our meals. \n\n\nRegister for free to submit your questions. \n\n\nAn on-demand video will be posted after the event. \n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\nBruce Friedrich\, Founder and President\, Good Food Institute \n\n\nChris Golden\, Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Planetary Health\, Harvard T.H. What’s behind Costa Rica’s remarkable success? How has its progress in health care improved its resilience? And what lessons can we learn for other nations? We’ll explore all that and more with our experts. \n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\nRoman Macaya\, Former Executive President and Chairman of the Board\, Costa Rican Social Security; Former Ambassador to the U.S \n\n\nAsaf Bitton\, Executive Director\, Ariadne Labs; Associate Professor\, Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H.
