Cancer Registries in India

The India Research Center hosted and collaborated with Ms. Amiya Bhatia, a doctoral student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, as she studied cancer registration and its implications for health equity in India. During her doctoral program, Ms. Bhatia conducted a mixed methods study on how cancer registries measure the burden of breast, cervical, stomach, mouth, and lung cancer in India, and whether it is possible to measure this burden disaggregated by wealth, caste, gender, and geographic location. This project also examined how cancer data are utilized to design programs in India, assessed the strengths of cancer registration in the country, and explored opportunities to improve cancer registration for monitoring equity. The project was supported by the India Research Center and the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
