Now recruiting for controlled feeding studies!
The Research
The Dietary Biomarkers Study seeks to measure and understand the concentrations, fluctuations, and movement of specific foods through the body over time. This study will identify dietary intake biomarkers. In other words, we will study the body’s absorption, digestion, and uptake responses to common foods we eat. Foods being studied include chicken, beef, salmon, whole wheat bread, oats, potatoes, corn, cheese, soybeans (tofu/tempeh), and yogurt.
What are biomarkers?
Biomarkers can be used to validate how well a person follows a diet. They are objective measure of what you eat and how much you eat. Biomarkers include vitamins, minerals, fat, calories, and proteins that are found in your blood and urine.
Why is this research being done?
Study findings will provide insight into how biological measures of diet can be used to assess dietary intake in large research studies. It is of great public health importance to discover and develop objective methods of dietary assessment.
Who can participate?
Participation in this trial is voluntary. You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are a healthy adult 18 years of age or older, BMI 18.5-39.9, and are able to come to Boston for study visits and food pick ups. Additional eligibility will be reviewed upon screening.
How will I benefit?
While there are no promised benefits to you or others from your taking part in this research. Possible benefits may include study meals. The potential benefits to society may be large. Study findings will help us discover and develop objective methods of dietary assessment. Up to $1000 compensation for study participation.
