Miriam Haviland, PhD, MSPH

Biography

Miriam is an epidemiologist with expertise in the design and analysis of studies pertaining to reproductive, perinatal, and pediatric health. She has experience with the design and conduct of both clinical trials and observational studies. She spent several years working for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center were she supported clinician-initiated studies from across the full spectrum of ob-gyn practice. She also worked extensively with ob-gyn trainees, teaching them about study design, data management, and statistical analyses.

In 2018 she joined the Center for Child, Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where she worked with investigators to apply novel analytical methodologies to address pressing clinical practice questions in pediatric medicine. She is currently working at the The University of Washington where she is working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to investigate ways to reduce firearm-related injury and mortality. In this role she also provides mentorship to doctoral students and early-career physician investigators.

Outside of work Miriam enjoys spending time outside in the mountains of the pacific northwest.
