Biography
Michael Muilenberg received a BS degree in psychology and zoology and a MS degree in biology from the University of Michigan. Mr. Muilenberg was a research associate at the University of Michigan Medical School, Allergy Division, where he worked for fourteen years on a variety of studies involving airborne allergenic particles, including allergen cross-reactivity studies. He also investigated fungal contamination and bioaerosol concentrations in domestic and office interiors. In 1993 he came to Harvard School of Public Health where he was involved in a number of bioaerosol exposure assessment studies and research looking at microbial contamination of building materials. In 2006 Mr. Muilenberg was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst where he continues his aerobiology research.
Mr. Muilenberg has taught pollen and fungal spore sampling and identification workshops for over ten years through the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology and the American College of Allergy and more recently directed similar workshops through Aerobiology Instruction and Research, LLC. He has lectured on bioaerosol sampling methods and exposure assessment as part of workshops sponsored by a variety of organizations, including the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, Dri Eaz Products Inc., the Massachusetts Health Officers Association, the University of Michigan, and the University of California.
