Biography
Joe Kimura, MD MPH is Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Atrius Health – a large multispecialty ambulatory physician group practice with 1100 physicians serving one million patients across Eastern Massachusetts. Dr. Kimura provides executive oversight for the Departments of Quality and Performance Measurement, Clinical Variation and Quality Standards, Medical Education, and Clinical Research. He provides direct strategic and operational leadership for the Department of Analytics and Reporting Systems which designs, builds, and manages enterprise clinical, financial, and operational analytics for executive and frontline audiences. Dr. Kimura serves on the HIT Policy Committee Accountable Care Workgroup. He is board certified in internal medicine with an active practice in the Kenmore Office in Boston.
Atrius Health has a long history with population health management rooted in its origins as an integrated delivery system (Harvard Community Health Plan) in the 1960s. As an early adopter of EPIC ambulatory EMR in the late 1990s, Atrius Health has built a robust health informatics infrastructure with an integrated EMR + all payer claims enterprise data warehouse that supports longitudinal patient centered analytics extending back 10+ years. Dr. Kimura was recognized as one of the Top 25 Clinical Informaticists by Modern Healthcare in 2012 and Atrius Health became the first non-hospital based U.S. organization to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 recognition in 2013.
