Biography
Andrew Karson, M.D., M.P.H. is the Associate Chief Health Information Officer at Partners HealthCare and the Clinician Director for the Partners eCare Epic Implementation Project. He is also the Associate Chief Medical Officer at Massachusetts General Hospital. In these roles he leads various projects and teams that focus on implementing clinical systems and using Health Information Technology (HIT) to improve quality, safety, and hospital operations. He is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and on the faculty of the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Policy. Dr. Karson’s current research efforts are in the areas of using HIT to improve quality of care, medication safety, and transitions in care.
Dr. Karson continues to practice as a Clinician-Educator in the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Medicine where he previously served as the Residency Program Associate Director and Director of Inpatient Training and Faculty Development.
Dr. Karson received a B.A. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College and a M.D. from Harvard Medical School before completing his Internal Medicine Residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was a Fellow in the Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Faculty Development and Fellowship Program in General Internal Medicine and he earned an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health.
He enjoys spending his free time participating in sports with his family and learning to play the piano.
