Harvard is planning to offer a dozen new online courses in the 2013-14 school year through HarvardX—the University’s branch of the online education platform edX— including new courses taught by Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) faculty.
The new courses are:
PH201x, “Health and Society,” [[Ichiro Kawachi]], lead instructor, professor of social epidemiology and chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences
HSPH-HMS214x, “Fundamentals of Clinical Trials,” [[James Ware]], lead instructor, Frederick Mosteller Professor of Biostatistics at HSPH and associate dean for clinical and translational science for Harvard Catalyst. The course is being developed through Harvard Catalyst.
In addition, educators at HSPH are using knowledge gained from the School’s first edX offering, “Health in Numbers: Quantitative Methods in Clinical and Public Health Research” (PH207x), as a test case for “flipping” courses, in which students watch lectures in advance to free up course time for hands-on activities, discussion, and faculty student engagement.
