Overview

Delayehu Bekele studied medicine at Gondar College of Medical Sciences and worked as a general practitioner for two years at Debub University. Then he did his post graduate specialty in obstetrics and Gynecology at Addis Ababa University. He has also an additional master’s degree in public health from the University of Gondar. He did his subspeciality in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC). He has worked as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Hawassa University where he served as the chair of the department of Ob-Gyn and the head of the school of medicine at Hawassa University.

He is currently working as an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and maternal medicine subspecialist at SPHMMC. He provides clinical service at Saint Paul’s Hospital, teaches undergraduate medical students and Ob-Gyn residents. He has several publications and was awarded the best researcher award by the college in 2015. He is the current president of the Ethiopian Society of Obstetrician and Gynecologists and an associate editor for the Ethiopian Journal of Reproductive Health. He serves as a local PI for HaSET, a program for maternal and child health research in Ethiopia, as well as the Antenatal Care/Postnatal Care Research Collective (ARC).
